VDX, FCoE, and Zoning

In the current version of NOS there is no support for Fibre Channel Zoning.  According to the documentation that means the VDX only supports "open zoning for FCoE initiators".   That's all well a good,  a known limitation, etc.  It works well for us when we connect ESX hosts in an ESX cluster as each host needs to be able to see all the LUNs presented by the SAN anyway.

What happens though if we want to connect a discrete Windows server (say 2008 for example) to the VDX using a CNA for FCoE connectivity?   Does it then get to see (and therefor want to take over) all the LUNs we have assigned to the ESX hosts?   Is there a safe way to intermingle cluster(s) and discrete hosts to the FCoE fabric and still keep things working?

Re: VDX, FCoE, and Zoning

Hi Terry,

I beleive the only way to do this at the moment is to lock down the LUN by FLOGI on the FCoE stoage device.
