Questions Answered at NANOG 71 San Jose, CA

As mentioned earlier, one of the key themes in NANOG 71 is automation fueled by telemetry, and a panel discussion on Monday addressed that topic head on. This is exactly the strategy of the SLX architecture--to provide a platform for visibility and automation. You need visibility to automate intelligently.

The Tipping Point for IP Fabrics

Brocade IP Fabrics Deliver Automation Cloud DC Scale and Agility

Network architects must implement infrastructures that support the business, are agile and flexible, and are cost effective. The cost factors should be demonstrable both in terms of cost-per-bit and operational efficiency

All of this is calling for more flexible (and often higher-scale) fabrics, which is one reason why Brocade’s IP Fabrics are gaining traction in networks both large and small, and in enterprises and service providers worldwide.

Integrating SLX Telemetry Streaming with Splunk Enterprise

by asardell ‎08-10-2017 12:51 PM - edited ‎08-10-2017 12:52 PM (7,258 Views)

Combined With Analytics, Data Streaming Forms an Invaluable Visibility Solution

In a previous blog, Deepak Patil discussed the theory and operations behind using data streaming to provide network visibility and analytics. Here, we’ll detail a concrete example of how you can build a complete solution (illustrated in this video) using SLX products and two collectors configured in Splunk Enterprise. The plugins to Splunk Enterprise can be found in this GitHub link so you can evaluate the effort involved, or implement it in your own lab.

Intent-based Networking for CDN and Hybrid Cloud Connectivity

by asardell ‎07-17-2017 12:58 PM - edited ‎07-18-2017 07:16 AM (10,444 Views)

In earlier blogs, we have gone over the importance of automation for colocation providers, particularly Internet exchanges and especially those who are offering cloud based services to their customers.

Here, we’re going to look at a slightly more complex use case involving a content delivery network (CDN) that can differentiate between the different content types that are delivered.

Overview and Key Themes from NANOG 70

This week, network operators at NANOG 70 (Bellevue, WA) checked in with us continually for updates on the status of various solutions in our data center portfolio. I’ll talk about these and other questions here.

A Hybrid Cloud Connectivity Template for Colocation Providers

by asardell ‎06-01-2017 07:15 AM - edited ‎08-17-2017 09:17 PM (13,817 Views)

In the last couple of months, we’ve explored how colocation facilities (Colo), especially those that provide Internet Exchange (IXP), can enhance their service offerings for hybrid cloud connectivity.

Here, we'll look at prerequisites for creating enterprise hybrid clouds that include multiple Cloud Service Providers (CSP), and connection options both inside and outside the Colo. This allows colocation service providers to be a viable option in a cloud-centric world, meeting the needs of cloud-first, Mode 2 enterprises, as outlined in the Gartner report entitled, Four Strategies for Colocation Technology Product Management.

Use Cases for Intent-Based Networking

This is Part II of a Two-Part Series; in Part I we discussed the components and attributes of intent-based networking. Here, we’ll detail several use cases in the areas of traffic management and threat mitigation for intent-based networking.

The classes of use cases we will examine are:

  • Traffic Management
  • External Risk Mitigation
  • Network Security Hardening

Network Visibility and Flexible Infrastructure Lead to Intelligent Automation

You need to see what's going on at run time in order to take actions. Armed with a closed feedback loop of automation and visibility, you can verify that network updates deliver the behavior you want.

The Questions We Ask of Networks

Last Thursday, Packet Pushers featured a thought-provoking podcast on the applicability of machine learning (ML) to networking. David Meyer, Chief Scientist, VP and Fellow at Brocade discussed the challenges, opportunities and realities.

Visibility innovations such as SLX Insight Architecture and SLX Visibility Services are facilitating this ability in the data center, particularly in support of DevOps-style workflow automation such as Brocade Workflow Composer.
