When a new technology enters the market, adoption takes time to ramp up.  One reason for this is customers need to evaluate the impact of the "new" on the tried and true.  VCS Ethernet fabrics was introduced in November 2010 and recently, we annouced two new products, the VDX 6710 for GE attachment and the VDX 6730 for connection with existing Fibre Channel SANs.

Virtualization and cloud computing are key technology transisitions in computing that are driving changes in the data center network.  They were instrumental requirements driving VDX product development.  Now, Tissat in Spain has annouced they will be building a Tier 4 data center hosting virtualization and cloud computing services and have chosen VDX with VCS Ethernet fabrics as a key building block.  You can listen to Jorge Montoto, Operations Manager at Tissat, as he talks about why the VDX Data Center family of switches made the cut.

This is big news in the data center facilities world, so much so that Tissat gained public recognition of this achievement earlier this year. As you can see from the table below, it’s a big deal to achieve tier-4 data center certification. It takes time, effort, significant investment and knowhow to achieve it. In terms of high availability alone, a tier-4 facility has to guarantee less than an hour of downtime per year, compared to a tier-1 data center that can have almost four days of downtime for certification purposes.

Brocade's VCS Ethernet fabric is being recognized as an important new technology that can be trusted when building mission critical data centers.
