At VMworld Barcelona today, Fujitsu announced their PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation integrated system. Brocade® VDX switches are the connective tissue for this new hyperconverged infrastructure option. In this post we’ll take a look at the drivers and benefits of this latest collaboration between Brocade, Fujitsu and VMware.
Although organizations are keen to transition to the software-defined data center (SDDC), the days of disruptive hardware rip-and-replace are over. Without the in-house skills (or the ability to move skilled individuals from other critical tasks to take on an infrastructure project), and without the organizational agility to change business models and processes overnight, data center transformation can be slow. To ensure a successful transition, organizations need to evolve in their own time with technology that will help accelerate their pace to stay competitive, while ensuring investment protection for the long-term.
Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation ushers in the next generation of converged systems to fast track organizations to the software defined data center. This new combined solution elevates convergence from the appliance to the rack, making it a powerful option for large scale datacenters. The recent press release highlighted;
"This latest addition to the Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX line-up of integrated systems is optimized for VMware’s enterprise-ready cloud infrastructure for private and public clouds, and combines certified Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers with Brocade’s networking technology."
Brocade® VCS® fabrics, delivered on Brocade VDX switches, are designed to meet the needs of cloud environments and scale-out data center architectures. These open, highly automated, software-driven, and programmable solutions enable enterprise and cloud service provider organizations to achieve seamless scale and operational efficiency. With open automation and plug-and-play scalability, these fabrics provide the foundation organizations need to evolve their data centers to a cloud model, at their own pace and without the steep cost and learning curves of other solutions. These benefits compound at scale, enabling IT organizations to confidently deploy large-scale Infrastructure as a Service or a virtual desktop infrastructures in a private cloud with Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation.
Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation Architecture
Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation design prescribes a leaf-spine, with two Brocade VDX 6740 top-of-rack switches in each rack to control network traffic and redundancy, and a Brocade VDX 6740-T1 management switch for out-of-band connectivity. Brocade VDX switches help organizations build a smart virtualization strategy by;
Meeting application demands with simple scalability and automation.
Scale out across multiple racks for fully self-contained east-west traffic.
Connect to existing data center infrastructure using L2/L3 uplinks with VDX 6740 switches.
Brocade is a long-time partner of both Fujitsu and VMware, delivering customer-focused technology innovations to customers that increase their time to production while keeping costs and complexity low. As with our other integrations, this recent collaboration goes beyond the technology itself. A self-built or loosely coupled converged infrastructure can easily add complexity purely as a result of the number of vendors involved in troubleshooting an issue. Through tight technology and process integration, Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX for VMware Cloud Foundation offers a single point of contact for both hardware and software support across the technology stack, for a seamless, hassle-free experience as you deploy and scale your SDDC.
