Hi Joe,

I see that you have been upload the training material for the beta exams. I may be  jumping the gun as I can see this is getting updated daily, but are you going to upload the CNE 200 Course & CNP 300 Course?

on ‎03-28-2012 03:39 AM

Live courses don't get uploaded. When we do upload a course, it is because it is in the process of being updated, or is a new, unreleased course. Only some of the exam came from the classes, with the bulk coming from the manuals listed.

Having just passed the BCNE & BCNP I've got to say that you guys do an excellent job wrt your educational material.  I've previously done the SAN certs & beta's and am glad to see that beta tests are available for the IP certs now.  Keep up the good work!  :-)

Thank you for your kind words. We strive for quality in our training material and exams. Is our certification program meeting all of your needs?

Hello Thiago.

It's great to here from you.  Here is the link to our CCNA/CCNP/CCIE bridge course CNE 250.

You will also be interested that we have a free knowledge assessment test called CNE 101-WBT.  You can find this by logging into MyBrocade, click the My Education tab to find all of out training classes.  Click the advanced search and type in CNE 101 for the course name.

Also check out our education page at: Education where you can also find the BCNE nutshell guide.

Let us know if you need anything else.

Good luck.

Passed BCNE 2012 yesterday wtih 90% - study materials provided in this topic are quite enough and reaaly good for self-study, but there are some contradictions between config guides, Nutshell and IP Primer book, I will write them, so I think responsible people will correct them:

1. page 27 in IP Primer

There is a picture with different optic connectors. But SC connector really dos not llok like in that picture, I think there is FDDI, double-wired. SC is single-wired. Also it would be better to notice that mini-GBIC is another name for SFP.

2. page 162 in IP Primer

Rule #1.Generally speaking, if you are dealing with a stackable switch, you

can only configure a two- or four-port trunk. On chassis switches, you can con-figure a two-, four-, or eight-port trunk. This rule is not hard and fast. Consult

the Brocade web site (http://www.brocade.com/) for your specific model. - it isn't this way, e.g. FCX config guide says it is possible to configure up to 8-port trunk.

Rule #2.Your trunk links must be contiguous. You cannot create a trunk con-taining, say, ethernet 1, ethernet 6, ethernet 11, and ethernet 23. Given this

example, if you wanted to configure a four-port trunk starting with port 1, you

must configure the trunk to include ethernet 1, ethernet 2, ethernet 3, and

ethernet 4. - well I can, any comination of ports, in real life and any config guide says the same

Rule #3.For a two-port trunk, you must start your trunk on an odd-numbered

port. For example, you can trunk ethernet 1 and ethernet 2, but you cannot

trunk ethernet 2 and ethernet 3. - it isn't true also.

Rule #4-#5 - eiser not true. BCNE in Nutshell says it on page 22.

Maybe in older f/w versions everything was so difficult, but not now.

3. BCNE in a Nutshell - page 24.

There is example picture about ARP with ARP entry in cache of host But in picture there is no host with address, I suppose it should be the one in up-right corner.

4. BCNE in a Nutshell - page 42.

Example with static routes - in picture shown R1, R2, R3. But in config Example shown Router_A, Router_B, Routers_C.

5. BCNE in a Nutshell - page 51.

"The process performed in the first block of Figure 49...". I didn't find Figure 49 in this book.

Anyway, thank you for all of the materials! Good work!

Any recommendations? I'm taking the test next week.

Well... read carefully all the materials provided, make sure you can answer all the questions in IP Primer book after each chapter but not try to remember correct answers, always get clear understanding why every answer is correct (for BCNE specific chapters, not all of them), try CNE-101 Web Based Assessment.

Sleep well the night before exam.. last thing for me works - generally exam is taken in evening 5:00pm-7:00pm, so I do not try to learn anything this last day, let my brain some cooldown before brainstorm.

Good luck!

Would be nice to have the Study Guides also published as ePUB documents.

on ‎08-07-2013 11:13 AM

Which format specifically would you like to see? We can investigate that.

by ciro.iriarte
on ‎08-07-2013 11:43 AM

EPUB would be excellent, I'm more than happy using it on a Kobo Glo. I've seen IBM and Oracle releasing thier new documents in PDF as well as ePUB.

on ‎08-07-2013 12:39 PM

Can you send me an email at jcannata@brocade.com with your contact information. I am experimenting with a PDF to ePUB converter, and if you would be willing, you could check out a Nutshell guide that I will try to convert. Thanks in advance.

PDF to ePUB is not ideal, as the output is not perfect (header and footer are the main issue). I use Calibre when needed, but the best option is to build EPUB archives from original "source".

Hey guys - I just took the practice exam (101-WBT) and missed 10 questions. Out of those 10, the majority were product-specific related (like features about products). Coming from Cisco, where I didn't have to memorize any specific product features, I'm a little worried/daunted when I look at each product catalog overview. There are a TON of different features, combinations, etc. I'd have to memorize to feel comfortable with any potential product questions on the actual quiz.

Am I really expected to memorize all this product information? It feels like I'm training to be a Brocade salesman.

This was one of my issues as well.  Products change too often to add that detail to the exam.  I will say that specific hardware questions shouldn't have an impact on whether you pass or fail.  There aren't that many.

I will also say that after having learned some of the hardware specifics, it has saved me in sales meetings where design questions come up and I have to give a quick answer.  One particular customer asked me for some quick differences between the ICX6430 and 6450 and I was able to answer without pause.

I still don't agree with having hardware questions, but it has some merit.
