ip nat inside/pool - how are they used and implications multiple default routes

This is for a ServerIron running the routing code.

I'm doing a write-up on using route-maps for multiple default routes and realized I do not understand parts of my configuration as well as I thought I did. What is odd to me connect to the VIP stops if "ip nat pool" is turned off for the associated network. Nothing showed up when searching for "ip nat pool" and "ip nat inside" so I'm wondering if I'm just using a legacy configuration. A lot of the configuration is ported from an old ServerIron XL.

Before I post anything on how to setup multiple default routes, it would for me best to have an understanding as to why the PAT/NAT is needed for VIP's in a multinet environment.
