Telnet to port 21 fails

Hi,

I am actually a newbie trying to learn more on the ServerIron ADX load balancer. I am trying to setup a simple lab in my home. The diagram is as attached. However, when I try to telnet to '30.30.30.254 21' on the client side, it doesn't work. I've also included the ADX configuration for your reference. From client side, I am able to ping to :

i) 30.30.30.253 (Source ip)

ii) 30.30.30.254 (VIP)

iii) 20.20.20.254 (Source ip)

iv) 10.10.10.254 (Source ip)

From the FTP server, i can ping to its gateway, which is 20.20.20.254. Is there anything wrong with my configuration? Any useful advice is appreciated.

rgds,

daniel

Re: Telnet to port 21 fails

Daniel,

I am not sure if you are running router code or switch code. Based on that there are couple of issues with your configuration.

If you are running switch code, you need to add a management IP address to the box. This is different from the "interface management 1" that you have assigned. Also it is not supported to use default gateway on your server as 20.20.20.254 (source-ip) on a switch code, so you will need to enable source-nat.

Add the following configuration and try again if switch code:

ip address 30.30.30.x/24

server source-nat

If router code, you can add the following configuration and try:

int eth x

     ip add 30.30.30.x/24

int eth y

     ip add 20.20.20.y/24

And you can use the default gateway on your real server as 20.20.20.y.

After making these changes you can check on your real server to see if traffic is getting to it.

Hope this is helpful.

Thx.

Re: Telnet to port 21 fails

Additionally.. you will know if you are running router or switch code by running 'show version'.

If system version on the box says ASR12200 then its router, if ASM12200 then switch.
