New sessions not following lb-pri-servers backup-stay-active

Hi

We are seeing an unusual scenario with lb-pri-servers backup-stay-active

2 real servers are behind a vip. One is defined as a backup server with a stay-active option.

When one of the ports in health check group fails on the primary RS1 then the backup RS2 is used and is continued to be used until manual intervention.

Our problem is that this works well for clients that have accessed the VIP before. The server iron seems to keep a cache of the client having been through the VIP.

New clients who have not hit the VIP say in 48hrs or more get connected to RS1; the primary, not the backup.

This creates some havoc for our new clients and the application on the real server. Its not an issue with clients that seem to be in some sort of table/cache

How can I force all new connections/clients to follow the backup-stay-ative state?

Setup:

VIP1 192.168.0.100

    port 104 lb-pri-servers backup-stay-active

    port 22104 lb-pri-servers backup-stay-active

    bind 104 rs1 104 rs2 104

    bind 22104 rs1 22104 rs2 22104

RS1 192.168.0.10

    port 104 tcp-only

    port 104 healthchk rs1_104

    port 104 keepalive

    port 22104 tcp-only

    port 22104 healthchk rs1_22104

    port 22104 keepalive

    hc-track-group 104 22104

RS2 192.168.0.20

    backup

    port 104 tcp-only

    port 104 healthchk rs2_104

    port 104 keepalive

    port 22104 tcp-only

    port 22104 healthchk rs2_22104

    port 22104 keepalive

    hc-track-group 104 22104

healthck rs1_104 tcp

  dest-ip 192.168.0.10

  port 104

healthck rs1_22104 tcp

  dest-ip 192.168.0.10

  port 22104

healthck rs2_104 tcp

  dest-ip 192.168.0.20

  port 104

healthck rs2_22104 tcp

  dest-ip 192.168.0.20

  port 22104

Re: New sessions not following lb-pri-servers backup-stay-active

Hi Greg,

There is no such cache on serveriron, which stays for 48 hrs or so. What version of software are you running and what predictor have you configured ? This info may help in identifying the issue.

Regards,

/Mohit

Did you ever get an answer to this greg.kaloutsis? We are wanting something quite similar and have used a similar structure using backup and lb-pri-servers but are finding a similar result... Does anyone have an answer to this?

Thanks!
