I am not sure if that is the right forum to ask such Qs but I wanted to try it:
Looking at the ServerIron ADX I am not quite sure what model to choose to compete with a NAS 3408. Any suggestions?

I am not sure if that is the correct place to post such questions but there is no better place I am aware of and therefore I think it is OK.
The 3408 is a 1 RU box offering 2 million concurrent sessions and something at around 110K CPS at layer 4 and 50K CPS at layer 7 if I remember correctly. There are 12 Gig ports at the 3408.
The ADX 1016-2 should be enough to compete here. It offers a maximum of 8 million connections, 100K CPS at layer 4 and 45K CPS at layer 7. It offers 16 Gig ports and it is as well 1 RU high. Go for a ADX 1016-4 if you need some more performance (16 million sessions, 200K CPS @ L4, 90K CPS @ L7).
Advantages: greater session capacity, performance, redundant power supplies possible, 16 vs 12 ports + some features
I hope this helps.

Do you need the datasheet?
