Riverbed announced today that it has been positioned by Gartner as the only vendor in the Visionaries quadrant of the 2013 Magic Quadrant for Application Delivery Controllers authored by Mark Fabbi, Neil Rickard, Bjarne Munch, and Andrew Lerner, and published in October, 2013. In the report, Gartner positions vendors in one of four quadrants - Leaders, Challengers, Visionaries and Niche Players - based on the company’s vision and ability to execute on that vision. The report identifies the application delivery controller as a key component within enterprise data center architectures. Data center architects should evaluate ADCs based on how well they integrate with a wide variety of applications and how well they support more advanced features.

As data centers continue to transition from physical to virtual and cloud environments, service providers and enterprises are integrating ADCs that are more flexible, dynamic and application-aware. In addition, organizations are seeking ADCs that support licensing models that address application and business drivers to reduce cost, improve time to service and scale applications.

While the Riverbed Stingray portfolio is designed to be deployed seamlessly across all IT architectures, including physical, virtual, cloud, software-defined, and hybrid data centers, this year Riverbed introduced a new platform enabling any customer to deliver application delivery controller-as-a-service (ADCaaS) with the Stingray® Services Controller (SSC). Gartner identified that Riverbed made significant strides in positioning its Stingray solution in a variety of user cases during the past year. Gartner also recognized Riverbed’s Stingray Services Controller for key enhancements that are enabling new innovative ADC user cases, including its "micro-ADC" footprint, which allows for multiple ADC instances to run in very small computing footprints without a hypervisor and the SSC licensing model based on capacity — regardless of implementation or number of ADC instances.

Gartner cited as strengths Riverbed’s strong, long-term vision of managing application performance across a wide range of deployment scenarios and the rich set of advanced ADC capabilities, including content optimization and Web Application Firewall (WAF) security capabilities available on the Stingray portfolio.

Riverbed appreciates Gartner’s recognition as Visionary for the ADC market. We will continue to innovate and bring enhanced ADC solutions to market that are aligned with the evolving requirements of enterprise and service provider customers.
