Data, data everywhere and we all want it now!  Wherever you are, I guarantee you won’t be too far away from someone who has an Internet-enabled device.  Globally, consumers purchased more than 100 million smartphones and millions more in Internet-capable tablets in the first three months of this year, giving users access to content whenever and wherever they want it.  While this is fantastic if you are a user – I love being able to download movies when I am stuck at airports – the demands place huge burdens on the network operators, service providers, and content delivery networks.

Video and TV streaming will soon surpass Web and Internet traffic and, by 2016, contribute the bulk of the 60,000 petabytes of annual Internet traffic.  One petabyte is roughly equivalent to 500 billion pages of printed text, just to give you an idea of the volumes we’re dealing with. With high definition, or HD, now mainstream, and with 3D TV taking off, operators have a massive challenge on their hands; just how do they satisfy demand?

Today, Brocade is proud to announce that we’re helping two such providers, Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) andLimelight Networks, in significantly evolving their networks to stay ahead of these demands by rolling out a new 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) infrastructure as their network platform for the future.  But don’t let me tell you about it... read the press releaseor listen to AMS-IX’s CTO, Henk Steenman, explain how Brocade is ensuring that the “I want” generation gets their wish.
