Silkworm 200E SNMP Performance Monitoring

Hi Guys,

Just new to the forum.

I am looking for some direction in getting SNMP configured for performance monitoring and trend analysis on brocade 200E switches.

Is this possible with SNMP on the fibre switches?

Does anyone have any good docs or manuals on how to enable this?
I was curious where i could download the MIBs as well?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

DC

Re: Silkworm 200E SNMP Performance Monitoring

Hi,

I use active monitoring with snmpwalk from a linux host with nagios; For example, to read the number of ISLs you can run:

# snmpwalk -v 1 -c "Community" "Hostname" .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.2.8 |sed "s/.*INTEGER:\(.*\)$/\1/"

I guess you could read some port statistics and calculate the bandwidh over a period of time; for example to read Rxwords for port 9:

snmpwalk -v 1 -c "Community" "Hostname" .1.3.6.1.4.1.1588.2.1.1.1.6.2.1.12.9

I currently work on such script to monitor bandwidth on some ISLs in my fabrics, so when I will have some results I would let you know. Unforunately it will be an average value between readings. I don't know a way to read instantaneus bandwith/port.

Re: Silkworm 200E SNMP Performance Monitoring

First off, you can use Brocade own DCFM @ http://www.brocade.com/products/all/management-software/index.page?network=FIBRE_CHANNEL

or SANHealth @ http://www.brocade.com/services-support/drivers-downloads/san-health-diagnostics/download_san_health.page

to capture stats.

I use Cacti for this purpose. @ http://cacti.net/

Or use CactiEZ which a preconfigured CentOS Cacti host.

They have fc templates for brocade @ http://forums.cacti.net/about6346.html

Read the whole thread as some users extended and made alterations to the originals, which might be more usefull in your setup

I found them to be short on some info, thus i created specific ones for a client using above as startingpoints.

If you make or alter templates or want to use SNMP in general, you need the MIBS an MIBbrowser.

Mibs can be found @ http://community.brocade.com/docs/DOC-1733

My favorate MIBbrowser is found @ http://ireasoning.com/mibbrowser.shtml ,but you can use whatever you prefer.

The values are 32bit counters.

To get the actual word, errors or whatever you need to caclulate the difference between now and the value you took before.

But be aware that the counter doesn't roll over twice between measurements as it will give odd readings

I didn't want to make my own script but opted for Cacti and available templates instead
