BNA Linux not starting and logging "Exception at postLicenseDowngradeTasks()"

[ Edited ]

Hello,

I'm trying to get BNA running on a Linux VM and when I try and start it in smc it fails.  During the startup process, there is quite a bit of logging that goes on, but right before it fails I get the clip below from the smc.log file

the last line before it errors out is

ERROR [core.ServiceController] Exception at postLicenseDowngradeTasks() call with error code 1,031 and error message Error occurred during the database clean up action.  Contact the technical support to resolve this issue.

When it errors out in smc, it says

"Error occurred during the database clean up action.  Contact the technical support to resolve this issue." in a window on top of where it is trying to start "Network Advisor Main Server".   I'm using the "IP Professional" free version (so I believe there shouldn't be licensing), at least that is the option I selected during the install (I've tried uninstalling and re-installing a few times).

Does anyone happen to know how to fix this?

     thanks,

            Steve

You mentioned uninstalling & re-installing. Are you doing a complete clean install each time? (i.e. nothing left under /opt between installs)

LindsayHillBRCD,

I've tried the uninstall both ways, yes.

 - uninstall and re-install

     and also

 -uninstall, cd /opt, mv Network_Advisor12_4_4 hidden, re-install

    thanks,

It looks like you had a licensed version installed originally (probably the trial version), and then you're trying to change to the Professional version. I don't think that's supported.

You need to completely reset your system to remove all traces of the old version.

Uninstall BNA. Delete all those files under /opt, don't bother renaming the folder.

Remove the files BNA added under /etc - this includes the start/stop scripts, and the /etc/Network Advisor/ directory.

Or just take the much easier option, and deploy a new RHEL VM from template.

I have just done an install of BNA 12.4.4 on a clean RHEL system, and chose the Professional license. Installed no problems at all.

Re: BNA Linux not starting and logging "Exception at postLicenseDowngradeTasks()"

LindsayHillBRCD,

Thank you for the input.  I didn't have a licensed version insalled originally.  I did try re-installing again after deleting everything, including the directory in /etc.  It still had problems, though.  I scrapped the VM and made a new VM and installed the OS again, and then re-installed, and that seemed to work.     So I guess I'll never know specifically what was broken, but it looks like I'm by that error message now.   Thank you for taking the time to read and comment on my post, I appreciate the input.

   thanks,

You may not have had a licensed version, but maybe it was set to "Trial" at one point? That might have done it. Must have been something leftover somewhere. Good to hear it's now running - thanks for getting back to us.
