the feature and right config of switch IP and CP IP

Hi all:

I have a question about switch IP and CP IP.

1 M48000 can work well without switch IP and CP IP

2 switch IP and CP IP are for management , do I must set up CP IP and switch IP in the same subnet? If not , what will happen

3 I can not find the clear information for switch IP and CP IP from the manual.From my testing , snmp browser can only get snmp information from swicth IP , can not get any information from CP IP.If I set up switch ip and cp ip in the deifferent subnet,for example.

switch ip :191.1.1.1

cp0 ip:10.77.77.76

cp1 ip:191.1.1.2

if cp1 slot is down, then  ip(191.1.1.2) is down, can I still get the information of cp0?

Thks for your kindly help.

Re: the feature and right config of switch IP and CP IP

IP Addresses, are not for manamegent only.

CP and Backplane IP must be configured in the same IP Range.

the actually setting are incorrect.

correct must - as example -

SW1 = 191.1.1.1

CP1 =  191.1.1.3

CP2 =  191.1.1.4

In order to delete you test config, see please in the Command Reference Manuals.

Re: the feature and right config of switch IP and CP IP

Hi techhelp24:

Thks for your help about my sw ip and cp ip problem.

Iwould like to know more technical details about the switch IP and cp IP.

1 "IP Addresses, are not for manamegent only." , what's their real function

2 I am curious to know the reason that I must set switch ip and cp ip in the same subnet.What can happen if I set them in the different IP ?

I can not access CP0 or cp1 from LAN if they are in different subnet .more points?

Thks a lot.
