removing legacy SAN environment

[ Edited ]

Hello

I have been tasked with decommissioning our old storage platform. As part of this i need to remove the old SAN switches. Currently only FabricA of the old environment is linked to FabricA of the newer environment, this being via an ISL connection via port 11 on both switches (E-Port).

 11  11   id    4G   Online           E-Port  10:00:00:05:1e:62:7e:ef "XXXX2SANSW01" (downstream)

Would i be right in thinking i would first have to remove the zoning from the newer environment and then disconnect the ISL link? Then power off the old switches?

Also here are currently 2 switches on FabricA on the old environment with SANSW01 being the principle, and 3 switches on FabricA on the newer environement, though all subordinates. Would i have to elect a new principle on the newer environment, if so, when? before or after the zoning deletion and ISL disconnected?

The Fabric has 6 switches

a config is active fabric wide, no matter is the fabric is composed from new or old switches and you have to take attention by remove zone from a config.

->Also here are currently 2 switches on FabricA on the old environment with SANSW01 being the principle,

you cannot have in the same fabric 2 switch as principal

Re: removing legacy SAN environment

I think i may have been misunderstood.

As it stands, there are 2 switches in the old environent that we will be removing. SANSW01 and SANSW03. SANSW01 is currently the 'Principle' in the Fabric.

The old switches and new switches are connected via an ISL link on port 11 (E-Port) on old SANSW01 and New SANSW01. If i remove this link, would it force an election for a new 'Principle' on the 4 remaining new SAN switches, or would i have to force once of them to become a princple?

Cheers
