modes on switches

Could some tell me simple and clear what different modes in SAN swicthes actually do? where it is needed and why?  Also what numeric code each mode is represnted with ( native=0?)

here are the different modes i heard about

Native mode, fabric mode, open mode and fabric legacy

i got the information from CRM for FOS 6.1.1; But CRM for FOS 7.0.0 says the interopmode command is removed/deprecated; so now what is the equivalent or what does this change means?

Interop-Mode is FIS 7 obsolete.

In soime circumstance you can work with IR = Integrated Routing ( in supported Plattforms )
