Re: merging Brocade 20-port 8Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter

Hi Arnold,

both are of Brocade breed so should interoperate natively as long as they run supported Fabric OS levels (most likely 5.3.2c and 6.4.1c but check with IBM for the latest versions they support).

Hope this helps,

Thanks Linar. i just want to correct my question, the 2498-B24 20 ports is an external 8gb switch and not a blade swicth module and wchich are going to connect to the existing 2005-B16's and 2109-F16's. i need to be sure before we connect it to the existing f. i also attached the infra diagram i hope this might help. thanks again.

Re: merging Brocade 20-port 8Gb SAN Switch Module for IBM BladeCenter

Hi Arnold,

these are still Brocades, so no issues.

However, the older 2109-F16 that you didn't mention before are Brocade Silkworm 3800 running Fabric OS 3.x. These are known to have problems when connected directly to 8G platforms.

Hope this helps,

I'd at least connect the new 8G switches to 16B if there are ports available.

A better (though more challenging) solution would be to consolidate around the new 8G switches, as show on the attached drawing. (Note that this just a conceptual sketch and not a complete solution).
