firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

Hi!

I'm trying to upgrade a couple of switches from 6.1.1a to 6.2.2d

configupload works fine with SCP but the firmwaredownload with fails with the error "The server is inaccessible or firmware path is invalid."

All informations provided are OK and have been checked using root account to connect with SSH and browse the path.

FTP fails the same way.

USB fails to enable the device.

Any idea ?

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

FWIW, I am having the similar problem, FTP just won't go and fails with the message you posted. (Brocade 5100 v6.4.2 to v7.0.1b)

As for the USB device, I tried this route as well and again got the same error message, but I have found where it states this need to be a "Brocade Branded USB Device"...  I have yet to locate a source.

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

You could try to run the scp client (as root) on the switch for a way to confirm that scp is working.

And are you sure you're pointing it to the correct path where the firmware is unpacked?

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

Path is /tmp/Brocade_FOS/v6.2.2d

Under which you find all SWBDxx folders

That's the path I give to the firmwaredownload command.

Do you suggest to run firmwaredownload as root ?

I already logged as root and did an ssh connection to the scp server

I could browse the path correctly.

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

I've always used the admin account to run the firmwaredownload.

Path sounds OK then. There is a 6.2.2e and 6.2.2f too by the way.

Perhaps you may want to double-check permission on the firmware files together with the user account you log on with to the scp-server.

At least with an ftp-server you can check the ftp-server logs - perhaps that can give some information. Perhaps there are similar (debug) features for scp.

Perhaps the firmware file you downloaded was corrupted or the extraction didn't complete successfully?

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

6.2.2d is last supported on this switch.

Permission are fine and files not corrupted, I updated 6.2.2b switches to this version.

I was able to connect as root on the switch and copy one file from server to switch with scp, but firmwaredownload still not working.

I'll check server logs.

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

What type of Switch ?

All Switches supported by FOS 6.2.x are supported by latest release is 6.2.2f

about you "firmwaredownload" issue, we discussed such problem here in 100+ Threads.

1) is the switch in same IP range as the FTP Server ?

2) is the FOS Package in correct FTP Folder ?

3) is the Switch/FTP behind by Firewall ? if yes you have to disable the Firewall.

4) have you started the firmwaredownload command with:

   /ftp_fos_folder/release.plist

Re: firmwaredownload fails with SCP, FTP and USB

IBM BladeCenter 4Gb switches are supported up to 6.2.2d only (for now)

Problem.

Could not find the exact cause, but with new ftp server configuration firmwaredownload worked.

Seems there is a bug with SCP and USB anyway

whre you get this info, IBM BladeCenter Switches are supported only by "d" release ?

First, this is incorrect.

Second, here is nothing BUG either in SCP, FTP or USB firmwaredownload procedure

--->>> USB fails to enable the device.

can you post please Switch Type and exact Model Number this Blade Switch you are used in Blade center ?
