i am trying to upgrade my ds 300 fiber switches via ftp on a windows server and it is failing
how should the directory structure look like
username is test whose home directory is D:\firmware
that contains folder v6.4.2a. inside this folder are all the files like common, bin, SWBD21, SWBD32, etc
when i run the firmwaredownload command i specify the filename as /v6.4.2a
is that the correct way to do it ?

There is an easy way to accomplish this on:
Download the free 3COM FTP daemon and install it on your desktop
Start the software and click on the FTP Server tab in the left panel then click on Configure FTP Server
In the middle of the dialog box that opens click on the button with the 3 dots and browse to the directory where you have the FOS code
Then open the WEB Tools to the switch and set the TCP/IP address to your desktop, user name to anonymous, password = any e-mail address
Set path to a \
Then click on upgrade
I hae used this on B200-DCX Brocade units and this process has never failed in over 4 years of using it.
Hope this helps

Techhelp24, I did as per the document instruction during firmware upgrade.
1) Download v7.0.0c
2) Put it on FTP server (using filezilla & turn off firewall) under D:\v7.0.0c
3) create username & pw in filezilla
4) Using DB9 serial cable & putty, connect to san switch
5) version shows 6.4.1b
6) run firmware download & on the path issued
a) server IP = 10.2.1.15 (filezilla ftp server = my laptop)
b) username = root
c) filename = release.plist. I've tried others like /release.plist, v7.0.0c/release.plist but to no avail.
d) Network protocol = auto
e) password = ftp svr password
It stops for a while at checking system settings for firmwaredownload & then error prompted out that path or credential is incorrect.
Any more idea?

--->>> 4) Using DB9 serial cable & putty, connect to san switch
you have to connect the switch trough you LAN for FOS Upgrade and not with Serial cable.
Both Laptop ( FTP Server and Switch ) must in the same IP range.
I prefered to work with MS Native FTP Server, but FileZille should work w/o problem.
FTP must be pointed to Correct IP Adress ( Laptop Eth )
