collect switcfcport stats

Hi ,

I am planning to collect switcfcport stats every minute on the fabric which contains 20 switches... roughly around 400 ports.

Which is the right interface to go

1. SMI - Enumerate Brocade_SwitchFcportStats OR

2. SNMP -

which interface is good so that i don't want to overhead the switch....

Thanks

Re: collect switcfcport stats

I'm just guessing here

1. I think the interval is too small and maybe 5 mins shd give u a good average.

2. I havent seen the impact of using SMI for gathering information, but for sure polling the snmp agent on the switch causes overhead and sometimes a reboot of the switch.

He's asked for overhead using each method. In my opinion SNMP polling would cause more overhead than using SMI. What do you suggest??

Re: collect switcfcport stats

Hi

Sorry for the late reply. Can you please get some Information from  the engineers so that i can decide upon which way to go for collecting port Statistics information. It will be for every 3 minutes i will be querying the switch. I should not overhead the production switch.

Please let me which is one better... SMI or SNMP?

Awaiting for your reply

Thanks
