checking a switch in a stack

I use ping "**filtered**.**filtered**.**filtered**.xxxx" to do a basic "is the switch up" check every 10 mins on 64 switches (some stacked) but when a group of pc's stopped working (No web access was the first sign) I checked the switch was up, and then used telnet to see it was all ok. But this was a 3 switch stack, and of course pinging the IP did not reveal the last switch in the stack has a failed PSU. Is there a basic simple way of checking all switches are up in a stack? other than login in (IE: telnet)

Best simple automatic way will be to use BNA (Brocade network Advisor) or a SNMP tool. This will provide you basic informations and a lot more informations if needed or if something going wrong.
