are the FabricID(FID) and domainID dependant ?

are the fabric ID ( such as 10,11) used just for identifications? Or are the FID derived based on domain id or the other way around? How are they related?

no, they are not related. when you connect several switches together, you have several unique domain ids in one fabric. which means they would have one common fabric id.

From the Brocade SAN Glossary: http://www.brocade.com/downloads/documents/glossaries/Brocade_SAN_glossary.pdf

  • Domain ID (DID):  A unique number between 1 and 239 on a Brocade 2000 Series or later switch that identifies the switch to a fabric.
  • Fabric ID (FID): Unique identifier of a fabric in a metaSAN
