ZoneConflicts at ISL-Connection beetween 5100 and 200E

Hi,

we've got some trouble with setting up an ISL-Connection beetween a Brocade 5100 and an IBM 2005-B16 (i think it's a relabeled Brocade 200E).

We've got the following constellation:

Brocade 5100:

  • One zoning-configuration, active
  • manually assigned Prinicpal-role by "fabricprincipal 1" and "fabricprincipal -f 1"
  • no specical port-configuration (auto-detect)

Brocade 200E:

  • No existing zoning-config
  • no specical port-configuration (auto-detect)

Both Switches have got unique IDs in the same domain.

Now we want to connect both switches by ISL:

  • 200E: switchdisable
  • 200E: fabricprincipal 0
  • 200E: cfgdisable,cfgclear,cfgsave
  • Connect both Switches while the 200E is disabled
  • 200E: switchenable

After that the switches try to connect each other and the role of the 200E changes to  "Subordinate" and switches back to "Principal". An ZoneError occurs and the connection terminates.

The problem seems to be "firmware-independent" (we tried it with different versions and switches).

The only way to connect both switches is to manually restore the zone-config from the 5100 into the 200E and start to connect them again (or destroy the zone-config of both switches). Everything works fine after doing that, but i don't think that's the correct way? I don't want to manually restore zone-configs when a switch dies and gets replaced

I would have done cfgdisable, cfgclear, cfgsave then switchdisable, but honestly i don't rember the exact order in which I did it before.

I only know it worked for me. On the flip side I've also used your workaround of restoring the zoning database to a new switch and then connect.

Hi,

Make sure that your 200E is configured with the command defzone --allaccess

You can display the mode with defzone --show

Re: ZoneConflicts at ISL-Connection beetween 5100 and 200E

defzone --allaccess solved our main-problem.

The Zone-Transfer works but the 5100 doesn't see the correct hostnames of the other switch (only wwn is shown).

We tried the same connection between 2 200E switches and everything works well..........will post some logs later

Re: ZoneConflicts at ISL-Connection beetween 5100 and 200E

after downgrading the 5100 switches to v6.1.0e everything works perfectly
