we have actually a broken Brocade SAN switch and i would like to know if we can use the installed licenses on a switch that we have borrowed and whose type is exactly the same one as the one that is not working properly anymore.

You can't, licenses are bound to the switch wwn.
When you replace a switch the license you have, should be generated and applied to the replacement unit by your support partner

you can transfer licenses from broken switch to the new switch same model.
please be aware that licenses are generated based on switch wwn and installing them onto other switch will fail
so it's not a good idea to transfer liceses onto borrowed switch as you will need to transfer them again on the new switch once you buy it.rgds

During the license activation process you need switch license ID (switch WWN) and license transaction key. On the following these two specific things your licence is generate. It means license is bound to your switch and is nondelegable to another switch.
