Hi @ all,
i'm trying to upgrade one of my dcx to 6.4.0a FOS.
I'm receivinge the following message:
"The following item(s) need to be addressed before downloading the specified firmware:
Upgrade is not allowed because in one or more of the 10-bit area supported partitions, some of the areas in range 0x7000 - 0x8F00 are taken. Please release these areas using "portaddress --unbind" or "wwnaddress --unbind" accordingly.
Firmwaredownload failed. "
Dcx are partitioned into 2 logical switch, one expecially for Open-system and one for Z-os series.
Anyone may help me?

Is DCFM as Internal or External FTP Configured ?
Is the Serices Started ?
Is the FOS Package in the DCFM Repository loaded ?
Have you access to DCX from DCFM as admin ?

- DCFM is internal ftp.
- Services are started (dcfm is working fine).
- the FOS package is loaded into the repository.
- Dcx chassis was accessed by "admin" user.
I think that the problem is probably related to 10-bit addressing of some blade as fos 6.4.0a readme say:
Disable the ports in DCX Logical Switches that use 10 bit addressing mode that have 8 bit areas in the range 0x70-0x8F before upgrading to FOS v6.4.0. Otherwise firmware upgrade will fail with an error message. This step is necessary even if users do not plan to use FC8-64 blades after performing firmware upgrade to FOS v6.4.0. However, if areas 0x70-0x8F are not in use this step is not necessary. Please use portAddress CLI to find out the areas in use within a Logical Switch.
I've tried to disable them but firmware update didn't start (same error).

will you try it through CLI taking individual domain. You have created domain or you have created Virtual fabric? You have to take the help of the vendor as 6.4.0 is new FOS and it is a challenge in DCX environment. unless until we face any issue related to that, it will be difficult to guide you.

You need to identify blade/ports using 10 bit address area mode
example of ports using 8 bit area

be carefull that the activity could be disruptive for affected hosts
