Upgrading FOS from 5.1.0 to latest

Hi all.

I am new to SAN switches. I am working on upgarding 4100 switch to latest fabric OS level from 5.1.0. I looked at the upgrade paths and referred to release notes and found that next supported level would be 5.3.2.

I found there are various 5.3.2 levels e.g. 5.3.2a, 5.3.2b and 5.3.2c.

I want to know if I can directly upgrade to 5.3.2c or is it like I need to upgarde it to 5.3.2 first and then apply 5.3.2c and how to figure out which can be applied. I did check release notes of 5.3.2c and it say "Fabric OS v5.1.x to v5.3.x is supported".

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Any flavor of 5.3.x is ok.  Go with v5.3.2c.

Re: Upgrading FOS from 5.1.0 to latest

Hi Jay,

I have the same switch and I need to connect it to IBM 2498-B40 with firmware level 6.4; so I need to update the old 2005-B32 from 5.3.c to highest level in 6.3 what are the levels and steps I should go through.

Thanks for your answer.

Re: Upgrading FOS from 5.1.0 to latest

Hi,

you have to do these steps from 5.3.0c to 6.4.x

5.3.0c --> 6.0.x --> 6.1.x --> 6.2.x --> 6.3.x --> 6.4.x

I prefere the latest level of each code family.

Have a closer look to the release notes of each code you want to install. Some codes have special recommendations for the update procedure.

Have a look which version is supported from IBM to avoid any support isues with IBM.

I hope this helps,

Andreas
