Upgrading Brocade edge switch (5300) and Core switch (DCX) from 6.4.3f to 7.2.1d

Hi All, We are planning to upgrade our Brocade edge switch (5300) and Core switch (DCX) from 6.4.3d to 7.2.1d.

But i not getting any good document or compatibilty Matrix link wherein i can find whether we can go direclty from 6.4.3d to 7.2.1d version or will there be a hop in between them. We have IBM SVC connected in front which is running on 6.4.0.10. Al open system hosts are connected to this SVC and there is no tape labrary connected in this environment.

Release note of 7.2.1d doesn't give any satisfying answer.

If any one has any good compatabillity martic link or doc. Please share it with me.

Regards

Re: Upgrading Brocade edge switch (5300) and Core switch (DCX) from 6.4.3f to 7.2.1d

Hello Ralf,

Thank you for sharing the pdf. So as per the pdf:-

"

Upgrade path to Brocade FOS v6.4.3d/e or FOS v7.2.1a for Open Systems environments:

FOS v6.0.0c FOS v6.1.2c FOS v6.2.2f FOS v6.3.2d FOS v6.4.3d/e/f/g  FOS v7.0.2c/d/e FOS v7.1.1a/b/c*  FOS v7.2.1a/b/c/d"

Now i am currently running at 6.4.3f and i want to move to 7.2.1d, so there are two hop's in it

1) FOS 6.4.3f to FOS v7.0.2c/d/e

2) FOS v7.0.2c/d/e to FOS v7.1.1a/b/c*

then eventually

3 FOS v7.1.1a/b/c* to FOS v7.2.1a/b/c/d

am i correct?

If above statement is correct then

I have one more doubt, we have total 44 switches in the environment. 22 in one fabric and 22 in another fabric. So when we are upgrading switches per fabric they should not be upgraded to 7.2.1d version during that time stamp.. rather they should be upgraded to one hop first them wait for some days till all the switches in both the fabric are upgraded to first hop then again proceed for next hop in simar manner.

We should upgrade all switches in one fabric to v7.0.2c/d/e version first them do the same for another farbric.

Check the stability of the switch. then move to another hop in simlar manner for both Fabric then eventually move to 7.2.1d.

no, you'd better upgrade one fabric in one go, without waiting in the intermediate FOS versions. then wait a few days and upgrade another fabric the same way.

Thanks Alexey.

I will keep this in mind and let me plan for the changes now.
