Re: Tape Optimization?

Is your backup server running on Linux or Windows? Are you using the latest tape drivers from IBM?

Re: Tape Optimization?

Check to see if the drives are logged in as F or FL. I believe that you should with the proper driver be able to get them to log in as F-ports which would be preferred (less overhead).

Re: Tape Optimization?

Try using tar or dd to write data to the tape and see how it performs.

Re: Tape Optimization?

Also, what about compression? Are you sending compressed data to the drives that the drives are then trying to compress?

Re: Tape Optimization?

If anyone knows how to disable compression on IBM 3583/3582 LTO-2 drives that would be great!!

Re: Tape Optimization?

When you say "Arkeia supports the drive directly", does that mean you are not using IBM's tape driver? If not, I would try that. I might also let you disable compression on the drives.
