Silkworm 24000 16port Fiber Blades

Hello,

I've been trying to locate information on some fiber port blades installed in a Silkworm 24000 Director.  I know this product is quite dated and has reached end of life.

We have one Silkworm that was converted from a 2109 M12 to an M14 and has 8qty 16port fiber blades inside.  We are trying to get another Silkworm 24000 provided to us up and running.  It has four blades that existed from when it was an M12 and 2 from it's update to the M14.  The part numbers on the M12 blades are 60-001653-04 and on the M14 blades it's 60-0002121-04.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction on what the difference is between these two blades.  I've been told the director was configured to be two independent switches since the M12 and M14 fiber blades will not work together.  Any hints why on this?

Thank you.

FC-16 Blade ID 2 = 12000 16 Port Blade and FC2-16 Blade ID 4 = 24000 Port Blade are only supported until Fabric OS 5.0.x

The Director must be configured with the command

"chassisconfig 3" Mode as dual domain, support  FC-16 in Slot 1-4 and FC2-16 in Slot 7-10

"chassisconfig 4" Mode as dual domain, support  FC2-16 in slot 1-4 and FC-16 in slot 7-10

Since Fabric OS v5.1.0 are Mode 3 and Mode 4 not longer available, and 12000 Port blade cannot longer be used in the 24000.

with other words, if the Director run Fabric OS 5.0.x both blade Type work withouth any Impact as mentioned.

If you intend to Ubgrade to 5.1.x or higher 12000 Blade are not longer supported and must be removed.

Re: Silkworm 24000 16port Fiber Blades

Thank you very much for the help.  I came across an obscure reference last night about the Director 12000 (didn't realize there had been one).

I appreciate the detailed information concerning the chassis config and firmware levels.  We're trying to get everything in our environment to the last supported level (5.3.2x), with this being the last switch.

A new switch would be nice, but won't make it into the budget for quite a long time.  Looks like I'll be after some FC2-16 blades to get us up to full capacity.

Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Niel
