SNMP and Fabric Watch

Hello,

I'm setting up SNMP alerting on my fabric switches. Some switches are licensed with Fabric Watch, others aren't.

What does Fabric Watch give me over forwarding SNMP traps without Fabric Watch?

Thanks,

Ty

Re: SNMP and Fabric Watch

Hi,

Configuring SNMP you can send traps reporting any alert.

By configuring (and licensing) Fabric Watch you can monitor many extra stuff such as CRCs, CPU usage, etc. which you cannot track without this feature. Once configured you can choose to send a snmp trap when the configured threshold is reached.

So with FW you have more alerts to configure.

Felipon

Thanks very much for the reply.

OK, so Fabric watch gives you performance/throughput type information wheras SNMP will tell you if a port is down for example?

Re: SNMP and Fabric Watch

Right, with SNMP you will send traps reporting standar events/errors, such as port failure. Whereas with FW, you will additioanally have alerts about Performance (and other things).
