SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

We started seeing SCSI transport failed , retrying messages on servers connected to the SAN fabric whenever there is any fabric changes happens. For example,

1. When I shutdown some switches and removed from the fabric,

2. When I removed the old aliases and zones and run cfgenale command

My servers are running on solaris and fabric has 3900/4100 switches with FOS 5.1.1 installed.

Any help to troubleshoot this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

is this the same issue as the first One Threads ?

If yes, you need to Upgrade the FOS.

If you are satisfied with the responses please mark as 'Answered'.

If not, just let me know I can see to get more info.

I would appreciated if you rate the threads.

Re: SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

No, this is of different issue. For the previous  thread we removed the 5100 switches we added to the fabric and that solved the issue.

And this is totally new issue, which is happening for any config changes happens in the fabric.

When a config is changed, some switch removed, connection is lost, or config change or delete, as you descripted in the Threads.....

.....this a normal behavior and not a Error.

Re: SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

in Solaris SCSI retryable error can be ignored.even if Sun also says the same.if SCSI command time out error comes, then it is a serious issue.

Re: SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

whatever for OS is connected to the switches, Solaris, Windows or any OS....

when you take a change in the config, this is a normal behavior.

But, if this error is continued after the switches are Power-Up, all Alias and Zone are present, the confg is correct and enabled, this is another story.

Re: SCSI transport failed error for any fabric change

Especially on Solaris -10 you need not to be worried.

We have to look from broader angle also, however SCSI cmd time out error should be looked at seriusly .I have faced the issue, where we found this error on Sun 25K server and after changing, HBAs, I/O Boards , atlast we came to knwo from Brocade that in one of teh CP of 48K, there is CRC error and we changed the CP .
