SAN switch -- not working

One of our 32-port switch is not working

from the past 6 months, today i just have looked at it. When i power on

the switch, on the console, i can see that it continuously doing some

diagnostics testing and continuously dumping cores.

I am not understand whether problem is with hardware or some problem with Fabric OS.

I have attached the console log.

Thank you.

Re: SAN switch -- not working

Shushi,

Ok, the /df and both Prim. and Sec.Partition work fine

Log as admin Remove the core file, with the command "savecore" select 5 marked file and than 3 remove marked file.

here the link to download the FabOS.

BTW. i note from output of switchshow, this is not a 3900 this switch is Brocade 3850 ( Switch Type 26 ) Value Line.

Download from here the FabOS, you must !!! Upgrade with intermediate Release.

First from current 4.2.x to 4.4.x

from 4.4.x to 5.0.x from 5.0.x to 5.1.x from 5.1.x to 5.2.x from 5.2.x to 5.3.x

Re: SAN switch -- not working

Thank you very much for this hint.

From the URL which you have mentioned, i am not able to find 5.0.X and 5.1.X releases.

But i can see 4.4.X, 5.2.X and 5.3.X relases,

Please can you give me the right URL/correct flow-of-update ?

Thank you once again.

Re: SAN switch -- not working

here is 5.0.x is the same FabOS Package.

You can Upgrade from 5.0 to 5.2 w/o intermediate release, see attached Release Notes.

*+

Firmware Upgrades and Downgrades

+*

Brocade does not support upgrading from more than two previous releases. For example, upgrading

from Fabric OS v5.0.x to v5.2.x is supported, but upgrading from Fabric OS v4.4.0 or a previous release

directly to v5.2.x is not.

Upgrading a switch from Fabric OS v4.4.0 or a previous release to v5.2.0 requires a two-step process:

first upgrade to v5.0.x or v5.1.x and then upgrade to v5.2.0.

Re: SAN switch -- not working

As the first step, i have updated firmware to v4.4.X.

No core files now. ("savecore -l" command gives "no core files found".

But if i try to enable a port, it says

swd77:root> portenable 11

portEnable failed. Possible reasons are:

Switch may be disabled, POD license is NOT installed, slot is off or port is persistently disabled.

Also, since FICON Management server mode (fmsmode) is enabled, the switch could be busy with another command. If so, please try again later.

swd77:root>

But the switch is enaled, GBICS are installed in all ports.

Why i am getiing this error ?
