SAN disks not showing

To whom it may concern,

I recently set up a second physical server with esxi 5.1 that connects to our HP storageworks SAN. We have two Brocade 300 FC switches and the servers have Brocade 815 fc adapters in them.

Server 1 and Server 2 have identical physical configurations.Server 1 runs esxi 5.0, server 2 runs esxi 5.1. Server 1 can see the HP enclosure and disk with no problem, Server 2 sees the enclosure but no matter what I try it will not see the disk storage. Is there something I need to configure on the B300 switches to present the storage to the server? I already tried vmware support but they said its not an esxi issue, everything looks correct, all the drivers are loaded, etc. The SAN storage is just not being presented to the host.

I do not understand why the server can see the enclosures but not the disk itself, has anyone had a similar issue?

Thank you,

-Tom

Re: SAN disks not showing

Well that solves my issue, thank you very much.

I'll redo it with esxi 5.0 and hopefully that will work.

Re: SAN disks not showing

I did a clean install of esxi 5.0 instead and the problem is still happening.

I can see the enclosures just fine but no disk storage.

Re: SAN disks not showing

By see enclosure but no disk I mean server 1 - identified as Brocade 815 - 3.0.0.0 in the output can see both the HP Fibre Channel Enclosure Svc Dev (two entries) on LUN 0 and the HP Fibre Channel Disk on LUN 1.

Server 2 - identified as Brocade 815 - 3.1.0.0 can see the Enclosure entries on LUN 0 but cannot see the Channel Disk entry on LUN 1.

FOS Release: 6.4.1a

HBA FW: 3.1.0.0

HBA is configured and working properly

Zoning is defined and running (as far as i can tell)

port is correctly set

Re: SAN disks not showing

The problem was not a Brocade problem but a host mapping issue on the P2000 array. Once I identified the WNN and added the mapping to LUN 1 and did a rescan the storage showed up without issue.
