Regarding Extended Fabric License

Hi:

I'm wondering if I use FCIP on FX8-24, do I need to buy Extended Fabric License. The distance of FCIP between two data center is more than 100KM?

    Thank you!

Re: Regarding Extended Fabric License

AFAIK, Extended Fabric is Bundled, with FX8-24 and 7800.

Advanced Extension Enable FCIP trunking and Adaptive Rate Limiting is Optional.

Re: Regarding Extended Fabric License

Hi zevilx

I'm using FCIP on 7800 (I guess the same with FX8-24) without Extended Fabric License (BR-EXTSEXF-01). Depending on OEM, Extended Fabric is not bundled (EMC's option = MP-7800B-XF, IBM's option = 7742).

Kind regards,

Re: Regarding Extended Fabric License

Thank for your reply!
Another concern: I have 3 sites to make Disaster Recovery.

1st is the 2 Fabric Backbones(2 fabrics actually) with DCXs( include FC8-48 and FX8-24) and some 5300s. ISL Trunking needed.

2nd is the intra-city where does the Syn Data Replication with two 5300s. Distance from Local to this siste is about 100KM. The customer will use DWDM.

3rd is the allopatry city where does the Asyn Data Replication with two DCX4S(include FC8-48 and FX8-24) and some 5300s. We'll use FCIP connection from Local site to this site.

Could you kindly tell me what kind of license should I buy for every Fabric or every site or chasis?

Many thanks!

Re: Regarding Extended Fabric License

If I use 7800 for FCIP. The distance between DCX(or 5100,5300) and 7800 is less than 800m. The distance between 7800 devices(from local to remote site) is more than 100km. Do I need to buy Extended Fabric License if I configure two options(1.VE_Port 2.VEX_Port)?
Many thanks!

Re: Regarding Extended Fabric License

Use Longwave SFPs and monomode fibers for 800m link, you don't need extended fabric.

Either for 1 or 2 option, you don't need to have extended fabric licence for FCIP link.

Best from my point of view (and in use for years without any problem) :

edge (DCX, 5100, 5300) E-port <-> Ex-port 7800 VE-port <-FCIP link-> VE-port 7800 Ex-port <-> E-port edge (DCX, 5100, 5300)

Hope this helps

Kind regards,
