Newbie question about e_ports

Hi,

I'm new to FC switches.

We have four 200E switches and are trying to set up ISL between the switches. Please see the attached figure.

How do I set up the ports so that they are e_ports for the ISL ? Do I need to worry about trunking since we are only using one link for each of the switches ? The distance between the 2 server rooms is about 400m. I have license for FULL Fabric for all the switches. The OS version is 5.3.0 for the switches in server room B and 5.0.1 for the switches in Server Room A.

Do I just plug in the FC cables in the ports and they will function as e_ports ? Do I need to group the ports in any way ? I tried using EZSwitch setup but I don't know how to set up the ports for ISL links. I got the switches to work for the SANs and the servers but what do I need to do for ISL to work ?

I'm very new to FC switches -- so please start me off with the basics if you please.

Thank you very much !

Re: Newbie question about e_ports

Hi ongtb,

i show the PDF you upload here, and you ask here:

ISL mode L0, no trunking, not extended (License not required ?)

--->>> .....but what do I need to do for ISL to work ?

400 Meter beetwen both room are Hard an limit! ( see list below )

I assuming that you not get a connect , because both port beetwen Room A + B are malconfigured.

Are both Fabric A + B production Fabric ? if no, and for test only, move one this 200E to the othe fabric with a short kable, nbeetwen 5 and 50 Meter, and test/configure you ISL.

If you cannot move one this Switches , set the both ISL Port's speed lower and test again you get a Link. ( see Attached TUT Part1 )

BTW. whay you have here a Different FabOS Release ?

Re: Newbie question about e_ports

Ong,

....probable you get here a double answer to you question, reason: i answer this one Hours ago, but i cannot see it.....

Again:

i show in the PDF you upload here,

--->>> ISL mode L0, no trunking, not extended (License not required ?)

with the 400 Meter, you are Hard an Limit, see Table below.

--->>> ....but what do I need to do for ISL to work ?

I assume the both ISL Port beetwen Fabic A + B are mal configured.

Are both Fabric a Production Fabric ? If no, move one this 200E and connect with a short Cable +/- 5~50 Meter and test if the ISL is work.

If the both Fabric are Production Fabric, set the Port Speed at both Switch/Port Lower than 4 GB, see here Attached TUT 100 Part1 and the Cable table.

BTW. whay do you have here a Different FabOS Release ?

Re: Newbie question about e_ports

Hi

Don't forget to make sure you use the correct SFP's for the distance , double check the part number with your local friendly vendor or check with the manufactuer.

Good luck
