NPIV and E port on 5100

Hi

I have a newbie question, but, nevertheless a question

We are considering purchasing two 5100 switches, and are wondering what is included in default 24 enabled licence

The thing we are most interested in is E port, and NPIV port since these switches are going to be used in ESX blade environment, so the question is:

Does new 5100 switch have E ports enabled without additional licence purchase?

Does new 5100 switch have NPIV ports enabled without additional licence purchase, and how many?

thank you

P.S. I have seen this on 5100 datasheet, but still, need confirmation.

Port types

  • FL_Port, F_Port, M_Port (Mirror Port), E_Port, EX_Port (Fibre Channel Integrated Routing); self-discovery based on switch type (U_Port); optional port type control
  • Brocade Access Gateway mode: F_Port and NPIV-enabled N_Port

Re: NPIV and E port on 5100

E_Port is License is the Fabric License.

NPIV is Native by all activated Port, additional License for this Feature is not required, and not available.

e.g. if you Purchase the Switch with 24 Activated Port all 24 Port are NPIV Capable.

If not, just let me know I can see to get more info.
I would appreciated if you rate the threads.

Thank you.

Re: NPIV and E port on 5100

Going forward pls try to get full fabric license for further scalability and for better ISl/Trunk utilization try to get trunking license also.

Re: NPIV and E port on 5100

Thanks for the NPIV answer, but, just to be sure, the question is, do I have E_port enabled with only purchasing default 24 port enabled on 40 port 5100 FC switch, or should I buy some licence for E_port to be enabled on this switch?

Thanks

Re: NPIV and E port on 5100

Thank you for suggestion, but for now, there is no need for trunking, since there is no big traffic going on. THus we are considering only default 24 port enablement on this switch.

Later, if needed, we will purchase more licences, and Full fabric licence.

thank you

Re: NPIV and E port on 5100

always check it with licenseshow cmd like this after installation:

user> licenseshow
zRR9dS9ec0SSAeC:
   Fabric license
b9bcR9bdbRcQcdSW:
First Ports on Demand license - additional 8 port upgrade license
EB3RY9GgXMSmHffEBtHNTWPYREZEFNPXBJ3NQ:
    Enhanced Group Management license
7NgSRFWWaL7FmHZmYZMLBTfRRJXQ3WmKB7YgH:
    8 Gig FC license
P9tQBCJKLBtHAJHLmZEJGDWtP7BYfQYHBACBA:
    Extended Fabric license
    Fabric Watch license
    Performance Monitor license
    Trunking license
    Adaptive Networking license

E port can be configured with fabric license only and in case of 5100 as somebody has mentioned , it comes with the SW.Only you have to buy trunking license, if u need later, but to tell you the truth, take it with the SW as it will be more costly if you buy it later.

BTW, while connecting ISL, connect atleast 2/3 for redundancy.
