Merge segmented fabric

Dear experts.

IHAC who had an issue in its fabric, soh that it got segmented fabric.

In order to deliver host x storage attachment, customer commited zone configuration in both switches. When the ISL came back available, the ports became "(incompatible)" due to zone conflict.

Can these two fabrics (same zoneset, same zoneset name) be merged online without disruption?

Tnx in advance!

Eric

Zoning and Zone member must have a unique Name, you cannot Merge/ISL TWO Switch with same config member Name

Re: Merge segmented fabric

Thank you, Tech Help.

The Brocade "Building and Scaling Brocade SAN Fabrics" (attached) states that:

"If two fabrics that have zone configuration information are joined, the zoning software attempts to
merge the two zone configurations.
The simplest case is where both fabrics have identical zone configuration data and the same
configuration is enabled. In this case, the fabrics join to make one larger fabric with the same zone
configuration in effect across the whole new fabric."

Doesn´t it means that "Identical zone configuration" is the same zoneset configuration and zoneset name?

If not, what does it "identical zone configuration" mean?

Thanks!

Re: Merge segmented fabric

From the attached doc

This merge does not take place under the following conditions:
1-The zoning is enabled in both fabrics and the zone configuration that is enabled is different (configuration mismatch).
2-The name of a zone object in one fabric is used for a different type of zone object in the other fabric (type mismatch).
3-The definition of a zone object in one fabric is different from its definition in the other fabric (content mismatch).

An object has to be unique or identical in name and usage for a merge to succeed.

That applies to the member order of objects aswell.

This not indicated merge:

Re: Merge segmented fabric

You have a point TechNet! Thank you for the enlightenment!

Let me rephrase all my question:

A customer have a fabric containing 2 switches, linked by a sigle ISL link. This ISL link is broken, resulting in a segmented fabric. In order to deliver urgent and important host x storage attachment, new zone configuration are committed locally at each switch in order to prevent zones and aliases mismatches. Consequently, we have the "same" zoneset enabled at both switches of the segmented fabric.

When the link become available again, ISL is restablished sucessfully? That is what I got from the doc attached in the first post.

Can you colleagues confirm that?

Regards!

Re: Merge segmented fabric

Yes, it should. But it has to be 100% exactly the same zoning config. This means even the order of the zone members in the additional zone has to be the same.
