Mcdata 4500 & 4700's ISLing to Brocade DS5000B firmware nightmare

Anyone know the exact firmware versions needed to ISL from and existing fabric of McData 4500 & 4700's into a new Brocade DS5000B.

EMC states it's 9.6.2 on Mcdata then 6.1.1 on the Brocade to run Interopmode 2 to make the brocade switch act like a Mcdata switch?

Any insight would be appreciated,

Tim

Re: Mcdata 4500 & 4700's ISLing to Brocade DS5000B firmware nightmare

Tim,

see below:

Mi10k, M6140, ED-6064, ES-3232, ES-4300, ES-4400, ES-4500,

ES-4700 (McDATA Fabric Mode and Open Fabric Mode note 5) note 2 and 4

M-EOS v9.8.0 note 3

2 ) Other M-EOS models may participate in a fabric with FOS v6.1.1, but may not be directly attached

via an E_port to any products running FOS v6.1.1. The McDATA ED-5000 director may not

participate in a mixed M-EOS/FOS fabric.

3) It is highly recommended that M-EOS products operate with the most recent version of M-EOS

released and supported for interoperability. M-EOS 9.8.0 is the minimum version of firmware that is

qualified to interoperate with FOS 6.1.1 or later.

4 ) When routing to an M-EOS edge fabric using frame redirection, the M-EOS fabric must have a FOSbased

product in order to configure the frame redirection zone information in the edge fabric.

Re: Mcdata 4500 & 4700's ISLing to Brocade DS5000B firmware nightmare

Thank you.

It looks like the firmware versions are now corrected on the Mcdata switches the firmware version is 9.6.2 and the Brocade has now been downgraded to 6.0.0b. From what I've read these should be the correct versions. Any clarification you can give would be helpful. I will basically disable the the brocade then configure it to run Interopmode 2 which is McDatas Fabric 1.0. Then connect the fc to the two switches and enable the config. I'm assuming setting the Brocade to Interopmode 2 will allow the Mcdata switches to isl to it with no other commands needed?

Thanks.

Yes is correct.

If you set the Brocade to Mode 2 must work without any Problem.

Working with support we were unable to 'turn off' principal mode. The brocade switch must come with principalmode turned on. I'm trying to find the command to set the brocade principal mode OFF or non-principal mode. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Mcdata 4500 & 4700's ISLing to Brocade DS5000B firmware nightmare

Ok. So I set it to 'fabricprincipal 0' which should in turn set it to non-principal. We tried that in the original attempt and did a switchshow, that showed us that it was still the principle switch. That was with Interopmode set to 2, however the isl port was also erroring out due to firmware incompatibilities. I'm thinking now that the firmware is correct the isl port should not have any errors but don't want to be pushing out the blank zone of the brocade to the other switches in the fabric. That would be bad.

Thanks for listening any input would be appreciated,

Tim
