Keeping two fabrics from merging

When setting up ISL between two fabrics to keep them from merging...Can I configure the e-port to ex-port without the need of a storage router ..i.e..(IR, 7500 or 7800 etc..)?

The switches are DCX's which has the IR capability...That being said some sort of routing is needed if we want to isolate the two fabrics..

Sorry, I'm a bit confused with they question.

I don't see a reason to Merge this 2 DCX with IR or Add. routing capable Plattforms.

Or are other Switches in the Fabric present ?

Re: Keeping two fabrics from merging

Don't mean to sound confusing, I have two DCX's that I want to ISL together, besides configuring the E-port on one DCX and configuring the EX-port on the other DCX...Is Integrated rounting needed?

Re: Keeping two fabrics from merging

bozeman,

sorry my ignorance please.

whe resume the Problem.

1) You have TWO DCX

2) You want to ISL both DCX....

3)....but, want to keeping to Merge

and here I'm confused.

What is the reason to ISL both DCX but keep the config / merge ?

My apology however I does not understand the sense this design.

Perhaps you can continue with another member here which is able to explain your question.

I am really unable

Re: Keeping two fabrics from merging

Hi Jboze,

If you need to connect to switches without merging the fabrics and still be able to allow communications between devices on both fabrics then you're right, you need to setup FC-FC routing.

The DCX is FC routing capable but beware that you need the "Integrated Routing" license. Do a licenseshow and see if you have it.

Take a look at the "Using FC-FC Routing Service" chapter in the Admin Guide, it will get you kick started on this topic.

Cheers,
