Is there any rule or guide can be referred when select the target FOS for upgrade?

Hi Experts,

IHAC who has a brocade switch 48K which running v5.3.0b FOS,it's a little stale against the latest(6.4.0) so customer consults us if the FOS need upgrade to newer one, the switch is mostly used to connect the EMC/HDS mid-range storage(CX/AMS series, these storages dont' care the FOS level).

If is there any rule or guide wrt. brocade switch FOS selection can be referred when make plan for switch FOS upgrade ? which FOS level is best for using ?

TIA.
Best Regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,

Hard to say which FOS level is best for using... You should check all the release notes for the new features, product support et cetera. But as you say, the hardware isn't asking for a new version.

You should also check the support matrix of your vendor if the 5.3 version is yet supported.

Ending of support by the vendor is the main reason for upgrading in your case...

The rule is from 5.3 .x you can jump to 2 level i.e. 6.0 bu tfrom 6.0 you can jump only 1 level that is if you want to go to 6.4, then it will be like

5. 3.x>>6.0.x>>6.1.x>>6.2.x>>6.3.x>>6.4.x

you should have upgraded it much before. but still you can do it now. bu tyou have to follow the mentioned step. Also you have to check the FOS compatibility of other edge SWs if yo have. See the release notes . Also you have to check the compatibility of all the HBAs' Firmware and driver version , which are connected to the SWs of the Fabric.it is avaiable in compatibilty matrix. Ask your storage vendor if Microcode of the storages need to be upgarded. also the multipathing SWs.

Otherwise you may face server related issue.
