How to join Brocade 5100 (6.1.0c) to existing fabric of McData 4700 & Brocade 5000

Hello,

I have a big question. A couple of big questions. Here's my current environment:

4 x McData 4700 (M-EOS 9.6.0)  and Brocade 5000 (Fab OS 5.3.0a) currently working in McData Open Fabric mode.

Just bought a new 5100 with FabOS 6.1.0c.

Unfortunately, it doesn't support current environment. After looking at documentation, I see the minimum requirements:

McData 4700 -> 9.6.2

Brocade 5000 -> 6.1.0

Another caveat, page 266 of FOSAdminGuide_610.pdf -> Open Fabric Mode -> max 200 devices and max 4 switches (I understand it correctly, that max 200 devices means limitation of 200 FC connected ports, don't I?). Oops.

Ok, going to FOSAdminGuide_620.pdf. It seems Open Fabric is not a problem anymore (max 2048 devices with 32 switches). Good. But it requires:

McData 4700 -> 9.9.0

Brocade 5000 -> 6.2.0

So,

1) Do I understand correctly limitation of FabOS 6.1.0 in  Open Fabric Mode? If yes, it's not going to fly

2) Is it Ok to upgrade McData thru 3 steps (9.6.0 -> 9.7.x -> 9.8.x -> 9.9.0)?

3) Is it Ok to upgrade Brocade 5000 thru 3 steps (5.3.0 -> 6.0.0 -> 6.1.0 -> 6.2.0)?

4) By 2&3 I mean some underwater caveats and feature/interconnection/fabric loosing while upgrading to such a top FW level.

5) Is there's any problems in converting interopmode 1 of FabOS 5.3.0 to interopmode 3 of FabOS 5.3.0?

6) Does it make sense to switch to McData Native fabric Mode?

Any help is appreciated,

Andrey
