Fos upgrade best practise?

Environment

We have approx 6 Brocade fabrics

We have about 20 switches in each fabric.

Approx 3 x 48000 directors in each fabric, and 15 edge (4900 or 5340)

All switches are now on  Fos 5.3.d

We need to upgrade all switches to 6.12

--

Best practise :-

Should  we upgrade all edge switches 1st? or core directors?

Should we do 1 fabric at a time??

--

Eg.,

1. FABRIC A-->  Upgrade 48k only

     Upgrade only 1 of them? or all 3 core directors?

2. FABRIC B--> Upgrade 48k only

     Upgrade only 1 of them? or all 3 core directors?

3. FABRIC A--> upgrade edge switches

4. FABRIC B--> upgrade edge switches

5. FABRIC A--> upgrade 48k

6. FABRIC B--> upgrade 48k

etc

What is the best practise?

Thanks

Re: Fos upgrade best practise?

Hi,

--->>>All switches are now on  Fos 5.3.d

--->>>We need to upgrade all switches to 6.12

is here a reason to Upgrade From Old 5.3 to Old 6.1 ?

latest release. is 6.3.x

If you want to upgrade from current 5.3 to 6, you need firt to upgrade to 6.0.x and then to 6.1 or 6.2

Direct Upgrade from 5.3  to 6.1 is not supported, see this Wiki.

http://community.brocade.com/home/docs/DOC-1642

--->>>Should  we upgrade all edge switches 1st? or core directors?

First Core then edge switches.

--->>>Should we do 1 fabric at a time??

One at a time.

You need first to Upgrade all Fabric to next level 6.x and the begin now the same procedure to next Level.

How to know the correct or supported FABOS version for a switch? There is an updated Matrix (link) for this?

Re: Fos upgrade best practise?

How about a 4920 with 64 ports?  Is 6.3.x a good idea for that model Brocade?

Re: Fos upgrade best practise?

yes its true that while Upgrading Brocade switches from OS 5.3 to 6.1.x requires intermediate code release first but i guess Brocade also provided a step up patch for customers running any version of Fabric OS 5.3 who want to move to OS 6.1.x.
