I have seen this before. I had to use a different ftp server and the upgrade was successful.

I went from a Linux ftp server to using Pablo's FTP Server on my laptop and it worked.

We tried that yesterday onsite, but unfortunately with the same result I'm out of options here and made a call at our switch supplier (IBM)

Laura,Does the 'Brocade Subject Matter Expert' have some more ideas ? Could it be something on the switch ? It's now running v4.1.1 and with the fix for the CF-card full problem.

Ok, here I'm again. After trying with 3 different AIX boxes and 3 different ftp-servers the firmware still won't download.Error: (Firmwarecommit failed.)

Re: Firmwaredownload failed. (0x23) Firmwaredownload timeout.

Hi All...

I too ran into this problem and it turn out to be a duplex mismatch issue.  The management port on my Brocade 7500 was running at 10-half when it should have been running at 10 or 100 FULL.  So below is what I had to do to resolve my firmware timeout (0x23) issue.

1. First you need to log into the Brocade switch as "Root" if you dont know the password then call tech support for it.  I'm not going to blast the private password on this post =).

2. You'll need to run the ifmodeshow command to see what the setting currently are. Note - this command only shows up when you are logged into "Root"

Example -

NFC7500:root> ifmodeshow
Usage:     ifModeShow <interface>
Example:   ifModeShow "eth0"
NFC7500:root> ifmodeshow eth0
Link mode: negotiated 10baseT-HD, link ok
MAC Address: 00:05:1E:38:0E:C4
NFC7500:root> 2010/12/21-03:37:54, , 87, CHASSIS, INFO, SilkWorm7500, s
upportSave has uploaded support information to the host with IP address 192.208.
20.66.

3. Next you need to run the ifmodeset eth0 command and answer to the option you want to set.

Example -

NFC7500:root> ifmodeset eth0
Auto-negotiate (yes, y, no, n): yes
Advertise 1000 Mbps / Full Duplex (yes, y, no, n): yes
Advertise 1000 Mbps / Half Duplex (yes, y, no, n): no
Advertise 100 Mbps / Full Duplex (yes, y, no, n): yes
Advertise 100 Mbps / Half Duplex (yes, y, no, n): no
Advertise 10 Mbps / Full Duplex (yes, y, no, n): no
Advertise 10 Mbps / Half Duplex (yes, y, no, n): no
Committing configuration...done.

4. Once completed it wouldn't hurt to do a hard reboot if that's a option for you and trying to complete the firmware upgrade again.

5. When you start the upgrade open another session as "root" and run the ifconfig command.  You should see little to no error or drop for TX and RX. and the download will see alot faster then before.

Example:

NFC7500:root> ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:05:1E:38:0E:C4
