FastBoot of FOS 5.3.x or 6.1.x disruptive or non-disruptive

Hi all,

I have a little question regarding the FastBoot of a switch. Is this non-disruptive for attached devices like a firmware update with hot-code-activation or will this end in a connectivity loss of hosts?

Thx a lot for your help,

Re: FastBoot of FOS 5.3.x or 6.1.x disruptive or non-disruptive

sascha,

the command "fastboot" is not available on non-bladed systems except for the Brocade 4100 and 4900.

"fastboot" ( no POST ) is same as "reboot" ( POST ) all connection will be lost.

For details see CLI Guide.

Hareboot is better option, if u just want to update firmware etc. As per theory the frames still get processed while the ha reboot is on, except the name server service which is not available. For director class switches like 48K the failover time is approx 2 secs, so no errors seen on the host. But for edge switches you might see errors while the HAREBOOT is in progress.

Check with the vendor who provides the multipathing software as to whether they support HAREBOOT.
