FFFFFA : Management server's well known address

Hi Techies,

Could anyone please help me in understanding the point below. This i found when going through the FOS Admin guide.

FFFFFA : Management server's well known address — The management server provides a single point for managing the fabric. This is the only service that users can configure.

What does this mean "This is the only service that users can configure." and what happens if we configure.....???????

Many thanks in advance,

Rakesh P.

Re: FFFFFA : Management server's well known address

Also from the FOS Admin guide (7.0.0):

"A client of the management server can find basic information about the switches in the fabric and

use this information to construct topology relationships. The management server also allows you to

obtain certain switch attributes and, in some cases, modify them. For example, logical names

identifying switches can be registered with the management server."

More information is available in the FOS Admin guide in the section "Management Server".

Re: FFFFFA : Management server's well known address

In short, there are several commands related to configuration of the management server. If you run 'help | grep -i "management server" on your switch you should see a listing similar to this:

brodcx:admin> help | grep -i "management server"

mscapabilityshow          Display Management Server Capability.

msconfigure               Configure Management Server

msplatshow                Display the Management Server Platform Database

msplatshowdbcb            Display the Management Server Database Control

msplcleardb               Clear the Management Server Platform Database

msplmgmtactivate          Activate the Management Server Platform Database

msplmgmtdeactivate        Deactivate the Management Server Platform Database

mstddisable               Disables the Management Server Topology Discovery

mstdenable                Enables the Management Server Topology Discovery

mstdreadconfig            Display status of Management Server Topology

Running a 'help msconfigure' should be a good intro to the possibilities, but the Admin Guide will also have a lot of information.
