Extending an existing zone of 2x Brocade 4/12 SAN switch (for HP c-class Blade system) with a new Brocade 320 8P Full Fabric Stack of x2

Hi,

I currently have a stacked pair of HP Brocade 4/12 SAN switches (for HP c-class Blade System)  with 6 ports free in each.

I wish to temporarily extend a single storage zone with an additional 2 x new  Brocade 320 8p (Full Fabric) to be able to migrate storage across to the new switches.

Is this possible ? Are there any major caveats with this zone extension ?

Does anyone have any high level steps to completing a zone extension of this sort ?

HP Brocade 4/12 SAN switches <--------------Single Connection ? ---------------> Brocade 320 8p (Full Fabric)

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

it's the fibre channel fabric you want to extend, not the zoning. The zoning is like an inclusion ACL where you say which devices can talk to which devices.

To connect the 320 8p you want to make an ISL (inter-switch link). There are many posts about doing those on this forum. Basically you want to have a Unique Domain ID on every switch, supported/compatible Fabric OS versions on all switches and more before connecting the switches.

After the switches are connected and have formed a fabric (output of switchshow and fabricshow looks good) then you can modify the zoning config by creating new zones and aliases if you want to connect devices.
