Different ASIC's

Hi,

I am bit new to Brocade FC switches.

I am trying to understand the differences between ASIC's

- Condor

- Condor 2

- Golden Eye 2

How the above are applicable to switches and DCX? Any document for ASIC's to understand in a easier way?

Many Thanks in Advance!!!!!

ASIC are Plattforms Generation Specific

e.g.

GoldenEye = Brocade 200E and other switches

GoldenEye2 = Brocade 300 and other s.

Condor = Brocade 48000 and other s.

Condor2 = DCX and other s.
Condor3 = 16G Capable Switches

Re: Different ASIC's

I think you got a typo in there.

Should be:

GoldenEye2 = Brocade 300 and other s."

Re: Different ASIC's

Do we need to memorise the port groups for each type other is there any logic behind every ASIC type port group and the number of ports they hold?

Re: Different ASIC's

Port groups are mainly important for ISL trunking.

Eight ports create a portgroup. These ports will create a group: 0-7, 8-15, 16-23, ... This applies for Goldeneye and Condor 1, 2 and 3 ASICs.

Under normal condition it doesn't matter where you connect a host or storage device. The performance will not be degraded.

On directors or switches with more than one ASIC you can avoid any backend traffic if the ports are located on the same ASIC.

To understand this it is important to know how the switch or blade is manufactured.

Please have a look in the Brocade documentation or trainings to get more information on that topic.

I hope this helps,

Andreas
