Device tries to flogi to port, reject FLOGI as persistent PID is set on the Loop device

We have a 2498-24B SAN switch and whenever there is a power disruption or reboot one tape drive fails to log back in.  The port is disabled and the following warning is given, Device tries to flogi to port, reject FLOGI as persistent PID is set on the Loop device.

We have 2 tape drives attached to the switch and only 1 has this issue.

You can issue a portenable command and the tape drive will log back in.

We don't have the port ID bound for those tape drives but do have other WWPNs bound.

Has anyone come across this?

Re: Device tries to flogi to port, reject FLOGI as persistent PID is set on the Loop device

Is there a difference in the port configuration?? Pls post portcfgshow of the 2 switch ports where the tape drives are connected. I want to check if there is a difference in the config.

Whats the state of the port in switchshow, once you power cycle the library? Did you check with portflagsshow as to whether the port is stuck in some state of transition?

Thats all I can think of.

Re: Device tries to flogi to port, reject FLOGI as persistent PID is set on the Loop device

Hi if your device is configured for persistent PID then you can configure your switch to enable WWN based PID assignment, as per manual:

Enabling automatic PID assignment
NOTE
To activate the WWN-based PID assignment, you do not need to disable the switch.
1. Connect to the switch and log in using an account assigned to the admin role.
2. Enter the configure command.
3. At the Fabric Parameters prompt, type y
4. At the WWN Based persistent PID prompt, type y
5. Press Enter to bypass the remaining prompts without changing them.
Example of activating PID assignments
Configure...
Fabric parameters (yes, y, no, n): y
WWN Based persistent PID (yes, y, no, n): y

Take a look, try it and let us know if this helped you so we can also get feedback.

Cheers!

Re: Device tries to flogi to port, reject FLOGI as persistent PID is set on the Loop device

I initially setup the switch before we migrated to have WWNaddress based PID assignments enabled.  It works just fine for our ESX, and AIX hosts but the tape environment did not behave well.  Our write speeds to tape were reduced by 70%.  I unbound the PID assignments for the tape drives and moved them to new ports and the speeds recovered.
