Connecting more switches to a Fabric

Hello all,

I have a few questions about connecting a new Brocade 300 switch to my current Fabric.

I currently have a "4900/2005-B64" which has 2 switches currently attached. Port 58, 63. I wish to attach the Brocade 300 to port 16 of the "4900/2005-B64" which has speed of N4Gbps.

I would like to add my new Brocade 300. I have modified the switch ID to a number that has not been taken yet using the commands below.

# switchDisable
# configure
     Fabric parameters (yes, y, no, n): y
     Domain: (1..239) 16
<cntrl D>

# fabricshow

Switch ID   Worldwide Name           Enet IP Addr    FC IP Addr      Name

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

16: ffff01 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx      xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx    0.0.0.0        >"IBM_2498_24E"

# switchEnable

I guess this is the domain id (DID?) Which I have used 16.

Question 1: My Port on the "4900/2005-B64" is speed " N4Gbps ". Is this compatiable with my new "Brocade 300", which has only 8G ports?

Question 2: Do I have to physically replace a port on the "Brocade 300" with a 4G one? Or will the speed be downgraded to the slower speed automatically? And is this recommended way of doing it?

Question 3: How do I tell the new switch to except the current configuration below? Is this done automatically or do I need to run"cfgsave" and "cfgenable PROD_config" on the new switch entering the Fabric?

zoning:         ON (PROD_config)

Any help is welcome.

Thanks again,

Re: Connecting more switches to a Fabric

This is very simple.

All switch in the same fabric, must have a unique Domain ID, so the first step you do to change DIDin Brocade 300 to 16 is correct.

Most importat things is, NEW Switch in such case Brocade 300 must have Fabric License, without this License the switch cannot join the existing Productive 4900 Fabric.

to join the Fabric, NEW switch must have stay clean, also no config, productive config will be synch automatically in 300 when this is in ISL

post here follow autput:

switchshow from 4900, and licenseshow output from NEW 300

About the switch Speed Port, Brocade Port are configured by default as Auto, also the Port work automatically as 4G when is connectted to other 4G Switch, but i would set the port Fixed as 4G.

to do that, login in 300 via Telnet, execute the command "portcfgspeed" port_number

TechHelp24,

Thanks for the help.

# switchShow (from "4900/2005-B64"). I know I have to enable port 16 before I use it.

# licenseShow (from new Brocade 300)

R9xxxxxxxxxxxx:

    Fabric license

zRxxxxxxxxxxxx:

Second Ports on Demand license - additional 8 port upgrade license

zRxxxxxxxxxxxx:

Full Ports on Demand license - additional 16 port upgrade license

ECxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx:

    8 Gig FC license

I replace actually licenses with (xxxx).

Is the "Fabric license" the license I need to attach this switch to my current fabric? Also do I need to use "port 0" on the Brocade 300 for the upstream. Or can any port be used? Is "port 0" the recommended port?

Thanks again for your help TechHelp24.
