Connect two 5100's to extend core to new building.

I'd like to connect two brocade 5100's to extend core to a new building and have the capability to add edge switches at both sites.

How do I connect the 5100's, so that they both can have edge switches?

The distance is small (~100 meters) , yet I am using the single mode long wave SFP's and configuring ports with long distance.

Thanks for your help.

Is there some type of ISL that combines the two 5100's into one big switch? Sorry for my ignorance.

Re: Connect two 5100's to extend core to new building.

Hi,

The design you're plannig to implement looks good to me. By ISL'ing the two 5100 together, they'll become a single fabric and you'll be able to connect edge switchs to any of them. In the FOS Administrator guide you can find useful info about how to connect create an ISL and merge two switchs into the same fabric.

if you have any further queries, just post them here.

Is "the single mode + long wave SFP's" the only option for long distance? Btw at what length does "long distance" start?

Hi,

there are other options for long distance, such as CWDM, DWDM and TDM.

The shortest LW SFPs that are usually used are 4Km SFPs.
